Welcome — and thank you for taking a moment to visit.
Woodturning has been part of my life since 2001, when I took my first night classes with Willie Stedmond, a founding member of the Irish Woodturners Guild and one of the finest turners in Ireland. The craft took hold, and it has stayed with me ever since — through demonstrations, articles in GMC Woodturning, exhibitions, and pieces in collections around the world.
This site is where I share that work with anyone who is interested. Turners of every level, those just starting out, and those who are simply curious about what comes off the lathe are all welcome here.
Here is what you will find:
Interactive Remote Demonstrations (IRDs) — live, high-definition demonstrations delivered to clubs and individuals around the world. Every public IRD is recorded, and ticket holders receive access to the recording as part of their purchase. Recordings of past sessions — wall hangings, pedestal bowls, platters, decorated boxes, and more — are also available individually if you missed a session or would like to revisit one.
Meet the Woodturner — a regular online meeting where I interview woodturners from across the world about their work and the path that brought them to the lathe. Audience members ask questions through the chat as we go. It has been a real pleasure to see how it has brought the woodturning family together, no matter where in the world we each happen to be.
The Shop — tools and items I use and trust, including Thompson Tools, Jimmy Clewes Tools, chuck grippers, bushings, calipers, and a few of my own bits and pieces alongside the occasional mug or T-shirt for the workshop.
Classes — if you would prefer in-person tuition, the Book a class page has the current details.
Timber for sale and the Gallery — wood for the lathe, and a look through some of my own pieces, including the Erosion Series.
If you are new to the craft, the best advice I can pass on is the one that was given to me: get some lessons and join a club. The people you meet along the way are as much a part of woodturning as the shavings on the floor.
Have a look around. If there is anything I can help you with, the Contact Us page is the easiest way to reach me.
Happy turning,
Pat
